Gotta Run!

Last week I only ran on Saturday and I haven’t done any runs this week either. I’m going to run today as soon as my phone is done charging. Lol.

I was going to run on Thursday, right after work. I even had my running clothes and shoes in my gym bag! But the restrooms at the park were closed for maintenance and the one restroom that was available was absolutely disgusting! So I sat in the truck at the park for a few minutes trying to decide what to do. I decided to go home.

Maggie Smith did always have the best lines!

Lame of me, I know. If I didn’t have to pee I would have changed outside of a stall and gone for my run but I just couldn’t bring myself to go into one of those stalls!

I would have needed a hazmat suit to clean the stall first. Seriously!

Okay, phone is at 92%. Gotta run!

Literally. 😀

runDisney Bucket List *Updated*

After reviewing my runDisney bucket list post tonight I see that I haven’t taken my run training very seriously.

I can only do 3 miles at the moment and even that is pushing it a little bit. Or maybe it just feels that way because I subconsciously feel like I have to run as fast as I can?

But hey, maybe I’ll be ready by the time these two roll around! Lol.

Disneyland Paris Half Marathon
September 19-22, 2019
Disneyland Resort, Paris, France

Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon
November 2019
Walt Disney World Resort, Florida, USA

I guess I’ll have to run the others in 2020!

Run with Boo – Part 2

My Run with Boo 5k kit arrived today!

I’m pretty excited about it! I’m planning on running it on October 27th. I think I’ll call my Dad and talk to him while he walks his after I run mine. I don’t think I could run/walk 3 miles while talking on the phone. Lol.

I’m not that advanced! 😉

I still need to  make the tulle running tutu. Thankfully I found a tutorial on how to make a no-sew one. Me + sewing = disaster!

Until next time!

Run with Boo – Part 1

Well… I signed up for my first 5k run last night!

It’s a virtual run so I don’t have to do any actual traveling for this event. Perfect for getting my feet wet in the running world.

A virtual race is simply a race that can be done wherever and whenever you want to run it! For example, the Boston Marathon is (obviously) in Boston. If the Boston Marathon had a virtual race version you could run that race in your hometown instead of traveling to Boston.

Mighty convenient for those of us on a budget!

Anywho, the race I’ve signed up for is the Run with Boo 5k sponsored by Gone For A Run, a company that sells running merchandise online. They also have a Thanksgiving 5k and a Christmas 5k, both of which I plan on doing.

This particular run can be done between October 27 and November 10th, so there’s still time if you’re interested in signing up!

I called my Dad and asked him if he would be interested in walking it. He was excited about the idea and I purchased the run (or walk) as his birthday present. He lives in Utah though so maybe we can chat while he walks it. Ha!

Below you can see my instagram post showing the cool stuff you get when you sign up.

Should be a lot of fun! I’m planning on running it at a local park so I’ll have to run around the track twice. To help stave off the boredom of running the track twice I’ve decided to wear a costume. Let’s hope none of the locals call me in as an escaped mental patient!

My costume is going to be a white and black running tutu made out of tulle, knee high ghost socks and probably just the Run with Boo t-shirt. And maybe some ghost earrings or some other silly accessories. Maybe I could get a plain white t-shirt and draw a ghost on it or something. I’ll have to be careful of where I place the eyes…

Anyway! I’m excited. I’ll post again when my kit has arrived.

Clinical Trial – Part 1

Has anyone heard of the UFC fighter Mac Danzig? Did you know he eats a plant based diet?

The reason I bring this up is because my mom has Type 2 Diabetes. She’s been accepted into a clinical trial at Kaiser through their HALT program. The goal of this clinical trial is to find out if eating a plant based diet reverses disease. Not all Kaiser’s have this program and this clinical trial will determine whether other locations will implement the program.

The clinical trial is two years and starts on March 20th.

No animal products. No oils of any kind also. I’ll post a list of the can eat and can’t eats when I get it for those who want to follow along and see if it works for them.

Everyone who participates in the trial is asked to bring a support person with them if they have one. If they don’t have one the folks running the program will be the participants support people. Since I am my mom’s support person I will be attending all the meetings with her, cooking with her and eating the same plant based diet she will be eating. Basically, I will be keeping her on track for the next two years!

This means I have to find a way to make ice cream and other sweets using almond milk! You know I can’t live without my sweets! Haha.

I know a plant based diet may seem extreme to some. At first, it seemed that way to me too. Then I watched two very important documentaries that completely changed my perspective: Forks Over Knives and What The Health.

I’ve noticed many times that after I’ve eating I feel slightly sick to my stomach. I could never figure out why. Now I suspect the culprit is meat and dairy.

Just the other day my mom and I went to a restaurant and had salads. I had grilled chicken on top of mine and I was already feeling sick by the time we got home. I’m so looking forward to not feeling sick after I eat anymore!

One thing I’m going to have to sit down and figure out is what to do when I go on vacation to tropical islands or go to Disney World. That seems like it will be a challenge but I will have to consult the folks running the program and see what they recommend. I’m sure it will be easier than it seems.

And there goes part of my urban farm. Well, the chicken portion of it! Lol.

Since the diet calls for no animal products that means no eggs. I’ll be selling or giving away my chickens and deconstructing the chicken coops. I figured I’ll reuse the wood to build planter boxes. I might as well save some money for the next two years by growing my own food!

Wish us luck!

2019 Disneyland Paris Half Marathon

Here’s some info about the Disneyland Paris Half Marathon, if you’re so inclined to run it in 2019. Official race information hasn’t been released yet, so I estimated the dates based off previous years. I will update the information as necessary when it becomes available.

I’m waiting for 2019 to run this race because I want to do the Castle to Chateau Challenge. You can find information on the various challenges below.

Now all I have to do is plan my costume and save up the money to go!

Castle to Chateau Challenge
You will receive the medal for this challenge if you complete the Walt Disney World Half Marathon and the Disneyland Paris Half Marathon in the same calendar year. For example, the Walt Disney World Half Marathon 2019 and the Disneyland Paris Half Marathon 2019.

To receive the Castle to Chateau Challenge Finisher Medal you are required to inform runDisney France of your participation when finalizing your registration on your runner form. You will be required to provide your official runDisney race finisher certificate or your runDisney results as proof.

The Disneyland Paris Half Marathon weekend also has kids races, if you plan on bringing the little ones.

2019 Walt Disney World Half Marathon

Only 311 days to go!

Some of you may be thinking, “Hey, wait a minute! It’s a Marathon weekend, not a half marathon weekend!”

You’re right. But I have no plans on ever running a marathon, and so for me it will be a half marathon weekend. Sorry, Disney!

Let’s get into the event details, shall we? For some reason, the official website doesn’t list the times. I’ll update this when I find out more information.

Walt Disney World 5k (3.1 miles)
Thursday, January 10, 2019

Walt Disney World 10k (6.2 miles)
Friday, January 11, 2019

Walt Disney World Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
Saturday, January 12, 2019

For information about the marathon, visit the official site.

Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge (39.3 miles)
Saturday, January 12, 2019 (Half Marathon)
Sunday, January 13, 2019 (Marathon)

I won’t be doing this challenge! Lol.

Dopey Challenge (48.6 miles)
Thursday, January 10, 2019 (5k)
Friday, January 11, 2019 (10k)
Saturday, January 12, 2019 (Half Marathon)
Sunday, January 13, 2019 (Marathon)

Another challenge I won’t be doing… But below there’s one I will be doing!

Disney Castaway Cay Challenge
Wednesday, January 16, 2019

This challenge is more manageable for me. Requirement? Do any event 5k or longer at the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend + the Castaway Cay 5k.

I have to say, I’m disappointed that there’s no challenge at the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend that involves the 5k/10k + the Half Marathon minus the marathon itself.

I guess I’ll just have to wait and earn all those sweet medals in the Castle to Chateau Challenge event!

I’m looking forward to the Castaway Cay Challenge. I’ve wanted to go on a Disney Cruise for a very long time!

How that works is you book your cruise, then register for the Castaway Cay Challenge on and enter your cruise reservation number when registering for the race.

So here’s my plan:
Do the Walt Disney World 5k, 10k, and Half Marathon, then immediately after the Half Marathon go recover at one of the spas with a 50 minute Swedish Massage. After that I’ll spend the rest of Saturday and all day Sunday enjoying all that the parks have to offer.

Monday I’ll jump on board the Disney Dream and do the Castaway Cay 5k on Wednesday, January 16th.

I’ve never been to a spa before. I’m excited! It’ll probably be quite an expensive trip, but fun and (probably) a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Work hard then pamper yourself. Let’s do this!

runDisney Half Marathon Bucket List

I think it’s been almost two years since I started running. Off and on. Mostly off.

I’m no where closer to accomplishing this goal than I was when I first started. Now I’m wondering where I would be if I hadn’t stopped. If I had kept going, even if the run was subpar and not my best, would I have accomplished this goal already?

I did have to stop for a while due to a knee injury while training a dog. The dog was ginormous and had the strength of Superman, Batman and the Hulk combined. Really.

While recovering from that I got used to being lazy. And now I start over.

Regardless, I cannot consider this a fail because I haven’t given up.

If I start consistently training now then I should be ready for the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend in January 2019. I plan on doing the half marathon instead of the marathon.

I’m not sure what’s going on this year with the half marathons. It seems as though a few of them are missing from the previous years. I hope they bring them back!

Below is my runDisney bucket list according to how I’ll run them. Now I just have to get that running thing down!

Human Trafficking Awareness Day

Sometimes I wonder if I’ll ever have hope for the world.

Especially on days like today, #HumanTraffickingAwarenessDay. It makes me wonder how our society could make such great strides in formally ending slavery while still continuing the practice behind closed doors. Except now it’s not only manual labor slavery, but any form of exploitation a person could imagine.

Society sits there pretending like most of these are normal and even acceptable. Society tells us it’s not our problem. “It’s not my problem,” society adamantly proclaims. I say it is our problem because the people being trafficked are our neighbors, people within our community, our fellow countrymen.

I wonder how many human traffickers have disappointed ancestors up above who fought against slavery.

If we did a poll it’s likely that the majority of people, if not all, would say that human trafficking is horrific and should be stopped. But how many of those people watch pornography? Pornography in itself is a form of human trafficking. Sex trafficking.

Every time someone watches porn it creates a demand. A pimp then goes out and exploits  someone to meet that demand and create more of that porn genre. How many are a contributor to that form of human trafficking?

The more we raise awareness about this global problem the more demand there will be for nations to come together to end it. We must band together to end this problem. If not for our own sake then for the sake of our future children.

Human trafficking has many genres. Labor, sexual exploitation, prostitution, pornography, and child brides are a few of these genres. In some countries parents handcuff their young daughters to them so they won’t be kidnapped and sold as brides.

What if it was your mother, sister, daughter, father, brother, or son who was trafficked? Would you only speak out then? Please, join the fight today so that none of us have to fear for our loved ones.

Day One vs. Strudels

One mile down, only 461 to go!

I did my mile run this morning. It took about 5 minutes longer than my last run. Mostly because I wasn’t keeping a strict eye on my time, partially because my body wasn’t really feeling it today.

I did my yoga and stretches for runners which probably helped get me through the workout. After my workout I got a notification from Pinterest telling me I had new pins I might like. Here are a few:

How did Pinterest know? Then there was this one…

I’m pretty sure Pinterest just called me a sissy. Haha, oh Pinterest, you snarky devil you.

I’m looking forward to my next run. I remember thinking that I wish my next run is tomorrow instead of Thursday. I can’t remember why though. I’m sure it will pop into my head at 3 AM as I’m fast asleep. Maybe it has something to do with the compression socks/leggings that I bought. They should arrive tomorrow.

My Flipbelt arrived the other day and I tested it out during my run, sort of. I mostly held my phone in my hand because I was keen on finishing and I kept pulling the phone out of the pocket to watch the distance. I’ll write more about the Flipbelt once I efficiently test it out.

I’m about to fall asleep onto my keyboard so I’ll say goodnight.

P.S. – That avoiding sugar thing… Failed miserably today. I swear those strudels jumped into my mouth!
